Why your stream isn't growing and how to fix it

Let's first start with a question: Who are you competing with for viewers?

Many might think other streamers, but this is not the case. As a content creator, you are competing for viewer's attention and time. That means your real competition is EVERY ALTERNATIVE FORM OF CONTENT.

Why should a viewer watch your stream instead of Netflix, Tiktok, and Shark week?

Every streamer must take a hard look at themself and figure out what value they are creating for their viewers. Almost every big streamer today can fall into one of five value categories and I can almost guarantee you they started off being really good in one of them before branching out to others.

Top Reasons why viewers watch Streamers:

  • You're in the top 1% of that game. This is often simply Rank or previous or current Pro players.
  • You teach your viewers. Similar to the previous bullet and often correlated with skill these streamers help viewers see why they make the decisions they make and viewers enjoy learning from them.
  • You make your viewers laugh. Yes, every streamer has fun moments but these streamers are defined by their humor and perspective. How often are you creating funny moments on stream? Anytime you tune into this stream you'll likely be smiling within 10 minutes.
  • You're a therapist. Viewers tune in to chat and be a part of the community you've created. This one is probably the most common among growing small streams and becomes less a focus as you grow but is still one reason streamers are able to grow.
  • You are very attractive. Yes you have to have other attributes to really grow and retain viewers. But many can build a following simply by being hot.
