How to Play Sound Alerts Through your Mic

Here’s how to set it all up.


Step 1: Install Voicemeeter and Set Up Your Virtual Audio Devices

To start, you’ll need:


  • Voicemeeter (Banana or Potato) – free from VB-Audio
  • VB-Cable or Voicemeeter VAIO virtual devices


Once installed:


  1. Set your default input device (microphone) to your real mic inside Voicemeeter.
  2. Set A1 output to your actual headphones or speakers.
  3. Mix both your mic and system sounds (like alerts) into Voicemeeter’s virtual output.
  4. This virtual output becomes your “Virtual Mic” you can use in games.


Step 2: Connect Your Alerts (Like Blerp) to Voicemeeter

If you're using OBS and a browser source for your alerts:


  1. Go to Windows Settings > System > Sound > Volume Mixer.
  2. Find “obs-browser-page” (this is your Blerp or other alert source).
  3. Set the output device for this source to “Voicemeeter Input (VB-Audio Voicemeeter VAIO)”.


This routes your alert sounds straight into Voicemeeter as if they were part of your microphone.


Step 3: Set Your Virtual Mic in Game

Now that Voicemeeter is combining your voice and alert sounds:


  1. Open your game (like Phasmophobia).
  2. Set the microphone input to “Voicemeeter Output (VB-Audio Voicemeeter VAIO)”.


You’re now “speaking” both your own voice and any sound alerts you trigger.


Bonus Tips for Testing

Before going live:


  • Try recording a test video in OBS to confirm that your mic and alert sounds are mixing properly.
  • Use a push-to-talk setup or mute toggle if you only want alerts to go through at specific times.
